And on Thursday 28 February the Centre will bring its life-size model horse to its stall at Middlesbrough College’s Open Evening from 5pm to 8pm. In partnership with Middlesbrough College the Centre delivers Diploma courses in Work-Based Horse Care at Levels 1 to 3. These can also be tailored to suit some students with disabilities and Learning Support Assistants are provided when necessary. Unicorn Centre staff will be in attendance to explain about the courses.
Unicorn Centre Manager, Claire Pitt said, “Students and volunteers play an important part in the success of the Unicorn Centre. In return they gain an important step on to the ladder of employment. Hopefully lots of young people will attend these two events and be inspired to apply to join either one of the courses or as a volunteer – or even both!”
The Unicorn Centre is a registered charity providing horse riding and therapy to children and adults with physical and learning disabilities. The purpose built centre, which celebrates its 15th birthday this year, is based at Stainton Way, Hemlington, near Middlesbrough, and delivers lessons to over 200 riders a week, assisted by qualified instructors and a team of volunteers.
