HORSE RIDING / THERAPY SESSIONS are available for children and adults from 5 years old with physical and learning disablilities, as well as a small number of non-disabled lessons. We also offer Riding and Pony Therapy sessions for eligible riders.

The Centre's horses and ponies are carefully chosen for their temperament, size and ability to work with our riders, and we have a hoist facility to assist with mounting for wheelchair users. Lessons generally take place in our purpose-built indoor arena, but also in our outdoor arena (with mounting ramp) and paddocks in fine weather.

Lessons take place daily Monday to Friday, and some evenings, and all day Saturday. Each lesson has a maximum of six riders, and the Centre provides trained pony leaders and trained side walkers for riders if necessary. Our leaders and side walkers are usually volunteers and our coaches are RDA and/or BHS qualified.  

Block bookings for groups of riders from local day centres, schools etc are available at discounted prices.

All potential riders with disabilities will be assessed for suitability by a senior coach at the Centre.

BLACKBERRY HAS ARRIVED AT THE UNICORN CENTRE!

Blackberry is a Horse Riding Simulator, run by a computer.  He's been installed in his own stable in the yard, and has access to the mounting hoist.

He is a fantastic new tool for our existing and new participants, enabling them to develop and enhance their riding skills in a warm, controlled environment as an alternative to using a real live horse.  We’ll use it to assess potential new participants on our waiting list and those with particular physical or weight problems can continue their riding lessons on it.  Blackberry is also amazing for improving riding skills in everyone, even experienced riders with its sensors and computer programmes.  And it means that our ponies can still provide riding lessons in the arena at the same time, so we can offer riding to more people every day.
